14 become members of Bangladesh Press Council
The 17th council of the Bangladesh Press Council was formed with 14 persons nominated as its members including two from the parliament, according to a gazette issued by the government yesterday.
Those nominated are Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ); Dr Utpal Kumar Sarker, a vice president of BFUJ; Akram Hossen Khan, former general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalist (DUJ); Golam Sarwar, president of Editors' Council and editor of the daily Samakal; Nurul Kabir, member of Editors' Council and editor of New Age; Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star and general secretary of Editors' Council; M Shamsur Rahman, member of Newspapers Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) and editor of The Independent; Mozammel Haq, member of NOAB and editor of Daily Karatoa; Reazuddin Ahmed, member of NOAB and editor and publisher of The News Today; Shamsuzzaman Khan, director general of Bangla Academy; M Khaled, secretary of Bangladesh University Grants Commission; advocate M Sana Ullah Mia, member of Bangladesh Bar Council; AKM Rahmatullah, MP, and Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh, MP.
