The High Court yesterday issued an injunction restraining Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, a ruling Awami League lawmaker from Patuakhali-4 constituency and former state minister for water resources, from holding the chairman posts of 11 educational institutions in his area for two months.

The court also issued a rule upon the authorities concerned of the government to explain as to why functioning as chairmen of 11 schools and colleges by Mahbubur should not be declared illegal.

The HC bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Salim came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by local AL leader SM Fazlur Rahman, the petitioner's lawyer Barrister Syed Md Zahangir Hossain told The Daily Star.

Fazlur filed the petition challenging legality of holding chairman posts of the governing bodies of 11 private schools and colleges by the lawmaker, saying that the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld a HC verdict that has earlier ruled that the lawmakers cannot be chairpersons of the private educational institutions' bodies as per their desire.
