Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Kumar Sinha yesterday termed a former CJ of the East Pakistan era, Amin Ahmed, one of the country's best judges and recommended that fellow judges follow in his footsteps.

“If our judges read his judgments, their lacking will be filled,” he told a ceremony organised by Justice Amin Ahmed Trust in the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium marking Amin's 25th death anniversary. “Justice Amin Ahmed had taken the judicial system to a new height. But we have failed to evaluate him,” said Justice Surendra. Presenting the medal to a Dhaka University law student, Abdul Alim, for his outstanding academic result, he suggested the trust members confer it to other students from Chittagong University and Rajshahi University.

Justice Surendra also asked the trust to construct a clinic in Feni, Amin's birthplace, to ensure better healthcare for financially insolvent people. The book, “Bicharpoti Amin Ahmed: Life and Work”, is Amin's biography, written by Justice Kazi Ebadul Hoque and MR Mahbub. Justices Nazrul Islam, Mir Hashmat Ali, Kazi Ebadul Hoque and Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, Amin's daughter Jarina Mohsin and SCBA Secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon also spoke.
