Detectives yesterday arrested a fake driving licence maker and his associate with 30 forged licences, a card printer, a laminator and a computer in the capital's Khilgaon.

The arrested are Masum Parvez and his associate Al Mamun.

Masum, who had been an assistant at a Nilkhet digital printing shop for several years, used to take orders from a middlemen's network and received between Tk 1,000 and Tk 4,000 for each such licence.

Masum admitted that he sold over 1,000 fake licences in the last one year, but detectives suspect the figure is more than that.

He produced licences only for light vehicles, particularly CNG-run auto-rickshaws, said Shaikh Nazmul Alam, deputy commissioner (north) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
