Facebook starts reopening ‘blocked accounts’

Social media giant Facebook today started reopening the “temporary blocked accounts” after 11 days of its initiative to suspend fake identities from Bangladesh.

A good number of Facebook users, whose accounts blocked during its drive against fake accounts, have already started accessing blocked accounts since this evening.

At least ten users told The Daily Star that their accounts become live today.

However, Facebook did not explain anything about why the accounts were blocked or disabled from April 15.

Kowsher Jahan Khaled, a journalist of The Daily Star, got his account activated in the evening.

“When I found my account was blocked, I applied to Facebook and remind them several times,” he told this correspondent.

Sarower Shatil, a student of Daffodil International University, also found the personal account became active around 10:00pm. He also said that he never appealed for reopening it.

Some Facebook friends and followers of this correspondent updated their status and thanked the authorities for allowing them access.

On April 16 and 17, Facebook had reactivated some of the blocked accounts. On April 15, Facebook authorities suspended huge number of accounts from many countries including Bangladesh, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia saying those were made up for getting inauthentic likes and comments.

At that time Facebook also asked them to provide necessary information by “submitting an appeal” on its website.

There are 2.6 crore Facebook accounts are being operated from Bangladesh, according to a report of “Digital in 2017 Global Overview” run by “We Are Social” and “Hootsuite”.
