Ex-minister Sardar Amjad remembered

Renowned freedom fighter and former minister Sardar Amjad will be remembered by generations for his enormous contributions to the country's independence and subsequent politics, discussants told a memorial meeting.
Politicians always think about what may happen in the next election but a real leader like Sardar Amjad thinks about his future generations, said noted economist Debapriya Bhattacharya.
"He never regarded politics and civil society as opposing forces, and believed that the two elements were integral to each other," Debapriya added.
The event was organised at Jatiya Press Club on Saturday by Bagmara Nagorik Committee and Sardar Amjad Hossain Smriti Sangsad, marking his first death anniversary.
Former state minister for information Prof Abu Sayeed, columnist Syed Abul Maksud and former minister Sheikh Shahidul Islam, among others, spoke.
Amjad died of heart ailments at a Dhaka hospital on December 19 last year, aged 75.
In 1970, Amjad was first elected a lawmaker on AL ticket. He was elected GS of Rucsu as a Bangladesh Chhatra League candidate in 1965-66.
