Residents of Comilla took to the streets protesting the prime minister's proposal of naming the proposed Comilla division as “Maynamoti” division.

The premier came up with the proposal during a meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) yesterday, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters after the meeting.

Yesterday, people formed a human chain in front Comilla town while many reactions were seen in social media against the proposal. On January 26, 2015, the cabinet decided to create three more administrative divisions. Greater Faridpur including Gopalganj will constitute another division while Chittagong division will be split to form a new division comprising greater Comilla and Noakhali regions.
