ACC sues former BNP MP Hafiz

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday filed a case against former Bhola-2 lawmaker Hafiz Ibrahim, also a BNP leader, for allegedly misappropriating a piece of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) land in the capital.

According to the FIR of the case filed with Motijheel Police Station, Hafiz was a member of parliament from 2001 till 2005. On January 1, 2004, he filed an application with Rajuk for a plot at Banani. The application included an undertaking in which he stated that he did not possess any land allotted by Rajuk.

On December 27, 2005, Rajuk allotted 5 Kathas of land in Banani residential area to the lawmaker and that property is still in his possession.

ACC's Deputy Director Jahangir Hossain, the investigation officer of the case, said the ACC in its probe found that prior to filing of the land application to Rajuk, Hafiz already possessed two pieces of land in Gulshan.

Meanwhile, the ACC yesterday arrested Mohammad Badruzzaman, acting controller of examinations of National University, in connection with a corruption case filed for embezzling Tk 1.04 crore said ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
