Five including four policemen were handed 10 years’ jail in a case of snatching gold and money from a man near Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last year.

The Dhaka court also fined each of the convicts Tk 10,000; in default of which they will have to serve for two months more in prison.

Judge SM Kuddus Zaman of Dhaka District and Session Judges' Court passed the order in presence of all the convicts.

The convicts are: Assistant sub-inspectors Shah Alam and Aminul Islam Rana, constables Raja Babu alias Raj, and Ali Ahmed and a journalist Tavel Ahmed. The four policemen were employees of Government Railway Police Station.

The court acquitted Nazmul Hossain, who was accused of the robbery case, as the charges brought against him were not proved.

The case was filed with Government Railway Police Station for snatching one kilogramme of gold ornaments and Tk 2,20,000 from a man near Dhaka airport in the capital last year.
