Celebrating today's women

The women of Bangladesh today are proactive both at home and outside, in every sector, be it arts, literature, economics, sports and so on. More and more women are giving men a run for their money and excelling in their chosen fields. Women are now putting Bangladesh on the map through their various achievements. Lifestyle magazine Canvas has always publicised the success of different women, and this year was no different.
On 8 March, with the backdrop of a lovely Saturday afternoon which happened to be International Women's Day, women of all ages, backgrounds and occupations gathered at the ACI Centre in Tejgaon to celebrate each other.
Among these women, eight women were presented with the “Canvas presents Freedom-Persona Aajker Nari powered by Vatika Hair Oil” award. Aly Zaker graced the event as Chief Guest, while the Special Guest of the event was noted economics and Centre for Policy Dialogue's Senior Fellow Devapriya Bhattacharjee. Also present in the event was Beauty Expert, Editor of Canvas and Managing Director of Persona, Kaniz Almas Khan; ACI Salt Ltd. Managing Director and ACI Ltd. Executive Director Syed Alamgir; Executive Editor of Canvas, SK Saifur Rahman and JP Victoria, Asian Consumer Care (Pvt) Ltd.
Media personalities and other noted members of the society also attended the event. This year, the “Canvas presents Freedom-Persona Aajker Nari powered by Vatika Hair Oil” award was given to Jannatul Mawa (Photography); Tamara Hasan Abed (Social work); Nishat Majumdar (sports); Farzana Wahid Shayan (Music); Monowara Hakim Ali (Industry); Lipi Khandaker (Fashion); Sadika Hasan Shejuti (IT); and Sonia Bashir Kabir (Corporate).
The evening was made more special by the musical performances of popular singer Samina Chowdhury.
