CU sends letters to halls, depts 20 days after student expulsions

The authorities of Chittagong University (CU) today sent letters to the residential halls and relevant departments, 20 days after expelling a female student and suspending nine others.
The letters, signed by CU Acting Registrar Professor Dr Saiful Islam, were issued on February 13.
Regarding the letters, acting Registrar Dr Saiful Islam said, "The letters have been sent to the residential halls and departments regarding the expelled students. If they have any statements to present, they must submit them in writing within 15 days."
When asked about the delay in sending the letters, he explained, "There is a process for everything. Those who have been accused must be given the chance to defend themselves. After that, the legal aspects need to be reviewed. We also sought advice from legal experts to ensure that no innocent student is punished. Considering all these factors, this process took time."
However, the delay in issuing the letters has triggered widespread criticism on campus and across social media.
