Computer Science grads face high unemployment in the US

In recent years, Computer Science has become one of the most sought-after college majors, both in Bangladesh and abroad, largely due to its reputation for leading to high-paying jobs and strong career prospects. However, new data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York suggests a different reality. As per the data, many Computer Science and Computer Engineering graduates are now finding it difficult to secure employment in the field.
According to the data, Computer Engineering ranks third (7.5 percent unemployment rate) while Computer Science ranks seventh (6.1 percent unemployment rate) among undergraduate majors with the highest unemployment rates in the US. While the fields offer some of the highest median early career wages, the unemployment rates have raised concerns about the actual demand for tech graduates in today's job market.
By comparison, fields like Nutrition Sciences, Construction Services, and Civil Engineering report some of the lowest unemployment rates, ranging from just 1 percent to as low as 0.4 percent. This trend underscores a widening disconnect between the perceived value of certain degrees and their real-world outcomes.
