Alokito Teachers, an initiative focused on transforming education through skills development, motivation, and classroom success, hosted its first-ever "Alokito Teachers Celebrations" yesterday.

The event, held at The Daily Star Centre, brought together over 40 teachers representing 30 renowned schools, including Sir John Wilson School, Playpen, Aga Khan Academy, Frobel Academy, Boston International School, and more.

The programme was organised to honour the teachers' outstanding commitment to reimagining classrooms with compassion, creativity, and meaningful connection.

The celebration recognised the transformative journeys of teachers who participated in Alokito Teachers' personalised, evidence-based professional development programmes, which focus on embedding student-centred teaching and learning practices.

Three educators -- Meherun Nesa of BAFWWA Golden Eagle Nursery, Dhaka; Dilruba Kamal of Glenrich International School; and Israt Jahan of Fame School -- were specially honoured for demonstrating exceptional innovation in their classrooms. Their work in applying differentiated instruction, integrating social-emotional learning, and fostering a strong sense of community among students was particularly highlighted.

Renowned actor, teacher, model, and dancer Aupee Karim attended the event as a special guest. Reflecting on her own experiences, she spoke about the deep connection between the arts, education, and empathy, inspiring the audience with her remarks.

Speaking at the event, Azwa Nayeem, managing director of Alokito Teachers, said, "Today is not just a celebration of Alokito Teachers, but of every educator who dares to dream of a better future for their students."

Moreover, sharing her motivation for founding the organisation, she said, "I started this journey not because I sought a career in education, but because I witnessed the power of one teacher's belief in me. That belief is the foundation of Alokito Teachers -- to empower teachers passionate about making a difference, one child at a time."

"Let's keep learning, growing, and transforming education together," Azwa added.

Since its founding, Alokito Teachers has impacted over 19,000 teachers in 750 schools across the country. The organisation continues to expand its initiatives, offering personalised development plans, coaching-supported learning journeys, and job placement services to support teachers throughout their careers.
