Ship with 50,000 tonnes of wheat imported from Argentina arrives

A ship carrying 50,200 tonnes of wheat imported from Argentina has arrived at Chittagong port.
The grains, bought through an international tender, are being unloaded, according to a press release from the Ministry of Food.
Of the wheat, 30,120 tonnes will be unloaded at Chittagong Port and 20,080 tonnes at Mongla Port, the statement said.
Between July 1, 2024, and February 3 of this year, the government imported 3.11 lakh tonnes of wheat and 1.12 lakh tonnes of rice for distribution under various social protection schemes.
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, the Ministry of Food imported 7.84 lakh tonnes of wheat, according to data from the ministry.
