Economy grows 3.97% in FY25, slowest since pandemic year

Bangladesh economy has grown 3.97 percent in the current fiscal year (FY) 2024-25, according to the provisional estimate released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The estimate is almost close to the projection by the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) 3.8 percent for the year.
This is the lowest growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) -- the final value of all goods and services produced in an economy in a certain period -- in the past five years.
Bangladesh recorded 3.45 percent growth in the fiscal year 2019-20, when the Covid pandemic began its rampage across the globe and brought all economic activities to a grinding halt.
