Banglalink appoints new CEO

Johan Buse, a telecom industry veteran, has been appointed as the chief executive officer of Banglalink, effective April 6, 2025.
He will succeed Erik Aas, who is stepping down after nine years at the helm.
Banglalink's parent company, VEON—a Nasdaq-listed digital operator serving nearly 160 million customers across six countries—confirmed the appointment in a statement.
Buse joins Banglalink from StarHub in Singapore, where he led the Consumer Business Group, focusing on strategy and business transformation.
He has decades of experience in the telecom industry across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, having previously served as the chief commercial officer of Ooredoo Oman and held senior positions at Deutsche Telekom Croatia, AXIS, and Singtel.
Welcoming Buse, VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu said, "With decades of experience across multiple emerging markets, he is well-positioned to accelerate our digital expansion and our contributions to Bangladesh's economy. "
Meanwhile, reflecting on his tenure, Aas said, "It has been a privilege to lead the Banglalink team, bringing VEON's innovative spirit, '4G for all' focus, and digital services to millions of Bangladeshis. "
Buse said he looks forward to leading Banglalink at a time of digital transformation, leveraging VEON's expertise to bridge the digital divide and foster innovation.
