Jatiya Party MP Golam Kibria Tipu today demanded the release and acquittal of Nasir Uddin Mahmud, the main accused in the case filed by actress Pori Moni on charges of attempted rape and murder.

The JP presidium member made the demand while participating in a general discussion on the proposed budget for 2021-22 fiscal in the parliament.

On Tuesday, another JP MP, Mujibul Haque Chunu, termed Nasir "a good person".

Golam Kibria Tipu said in his speech, "I've known Nasir for about 35 years, since he was a student. He is an established businessman and pays taxes to the government."

He said, "I appeal to the government to acquit Nasir," adding that the law will take its own course.

Tipu in his speech also said, "I saw on social media, that the actress has vandalised chairs, plates etc. at a Gulshan Club… I hope the government will look into the matter."
