The home ministry today suspended a superintendent of police (SP) ranked official and an assistant SP  after their alleged phone conversation regarding police and Rab leaked.

The ministry issued separate circulars suspending SM Fazlul Haque, who is in Rab-5 and was recently promoted to SP and Nazmul Hasan, an ASP (assistant commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police).

The circulars did not elaborate the cause of their suspension but mentioned that the steps have been taken for public interest.

The order takes effect immediately, the circular said. It also asked inspector general of police to send complaints to the ministry to file departmental cases against them.

The move came today, a day after Lt Col Mohammad Iftekhar Uddin, director (operations) of Rab, wrote to Police Headquarters to take SP Fazlul Haque back to the force from Rab and take administrative steps against him.

The Rab official mentioned that Fazlul had a sensitive phone conversation with Nazmul where he made unacceptable, false and indecent remarks regarding Rab and its officials, which created confusion in different quarters.

There is a possibility of misunderstanding between the two forces due to his remarks and activities, which is an unacceptable and punishable offense, Lt Col Iftekhar mentioned in the letter to Deputy Inspector General of Administration and Discipline wing of Police Headquarters.
