AL leader Gazi Mozammel Hossain arrested in Netrokona

An Awami League leader was arrested from his residence at Moktar Para in Netrokona town early today.

The arrestee, Gazi Mozammel Hossain alias Tuku, is the education and human resources secretary of the Netrokona District Awami League.

He was taken into custody by the Netrokona model police around 4:30am.

According to police, he is an accused in two cases filed under the explosive substances act.

Netrokona Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Shahnewaz stated, "Gazi Mozammel Hossain Tuku is facing multiple cases under explosive substances act. He has been shown arrested in one of these cases and will be presented before the court shortly."

Mozammel is a former general secretary of the District Chhatra League and served as the vice president of Netrokona Government College. He also served as education secretary for the District Awami League.

According to both party and police sources, since the fall of the Awami League government, at least 53 cases have been filed across 10 police stations in Netrokona against leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations. Around 5,000 individuals have been named as accused.
