A worker was killed and three others were injured in a blast at a shipyard in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram this afternoon.

The deceased Ripon Chakma (26), of Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari district, died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital this evening, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting Abdullah Al Sakib Mubarrat, deputy inspector general of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments.

The three injured workers are undergoing treatment at CMCH, said Md Hamid, nayek of CMCH Police Box.

The blast took place at 2:30 pm when they (the workers) were working in an engine room of a ship at SN Corporation in the Madambibirhat area of Sitakunda, said M Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station.

Police are trying to identify the cause of the explosion, said the OC.
