Storm death toll hits 33

At least 19 more people were found dead and scores injured during Saturday's nor'wester, raising the death toll to 33 across the country.
Bogra is the worst affected district as 14 more people were found killed there yesterday. The total death toll in the district is now 19.
Most of the victims were killed after wall collapsed and tree fell on them amid the storm. Around 200 people were also hurt.
Moreover, a woman was killed in Manikganj, a grocer in Narsingdi, a youth in Chapainawabganj, an indigenous woman in Rajshahi and another woman in Gaibandha.
Fourteen people were reported dead yesterday.
The nor'wester lashed Dhaka, Rajshahi, Bogra, Naogaon, Natore, Pabna, Sirajganj, Chapainawabganj, Gaibandha, Sherpur, Manikganj and Narsingdi districts on Saturday evening.
Four people were killed in Rajshahi and one each in Dhaka, Naogaon, Natore, Pabna and Sirajganj.
The storm damaged hundreds of houses in the affected districts. Electricity connections were snapped as power poles fell over in many areas. Vehicular movement was disrupted. Standing crops were damaged and trees uprooted.
In Bogra, of the 19 deceased, seven were from Sadar, three from Shajahanpur, three from Sariakandi, two from Kahaloo and one each from Dhunat, Gabtoli, Sonatola and Nandigram upazilas.
Shafiqur Reza Biswas, deputy commissioner of Bogra, confirmed the casualty.
District administration and hospital sources said at least 63 injured were admitted to different hospitals.
District administration sources said 91,894 families were hit by the nor'wester, and 147 cattle were killed.
Around 28, 667 houses were completely damaged and 70,301 houses partially. Over 250 educational institutions were also affected, according to sources.
Tk 20,000 was given to each of the deceased's family and 50 metric tonnes of rice was distributed among the victims on behalf of the district administration, added sources.
In Rajshahi, the death toll in Saturday's nor'wester reached five. Fulmoni, 65, an indigenous woman of Bharatmaria village under Puthia upazila, was found dead yesterday.
In Chapainawabganj, Mohammad Abdullah, 20, of Chapainawabganj town, was hurt critically when a broken branch of a tree fell on him when he was entering his house during the nor'wester.
Abdullah was rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital. He died from his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at night, reports our district correspondent.
In Manikganj, Sandhi Begum, 55, was killed at Daulatpur upazila after a tree fell on her, said Nazmul Nishat, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station.
In Narsingdi, Alal Miah, 35, was killed in a similar incident at Panchdona Bazar under Sadar upazila, said Abul Kashem, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Our correspondent from Gaibandha reports, a woman, Morium Begum, 42, wife of Aminul Islam of Shaghata upazila, drowned in the Bangali river as the boat carrying her and her husband sank during the storm.
The nor'wester also damaged over 100 houses and other establishments in Sherpur, adds our district correspondent.
