A local journalist was arrested yesterday in a case filed under the Digital Security Act over publication of a report against a former Awami League MP.

Al Amin Hossain, Meherpur district correspondent of the Daily Business Bangladesh, was arrested at his home at Banshbaria of Gangni municipality, police said.

Sub-Inspector Md Sumon of Gangni Police Station said Sabuj Hossain, nephew of former lawmaker (Gangni-2) Makbul Hossain, also a district AL leader, had filed the case.

According to the case statement, a report was run by a local newspaper on May 11 last year accusing the MP of occupying a house for 26 years.

Sabuj filed the case against publisher of Meherpur Protidin MAS Emon, its Editor Yeadul Momin and then joint editor Al Amin under the Digital Security Act.

Emon is a member of the AL's central sub-committee.

All the accused had secured bail from the lower court. Recently, the court ordered their arrest after police submitted the investigation report.
