Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral AMMM Aurangzeb Chowdhury has been appointed as the new chief of naval staff.

The defence ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard yesterday.

According to the gazette, the appointment will come into effect in the afternoon of January 26 when Aurangzeb will be promoted to the rank of vice admiral.

He has been made the navy chief for one and a half years until July 25, 2020.

He will replace incumbent chief of naval staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, who is scheduled to go into retirement on January 26.
