Best Lead Actress in Foreign Film: Jaya Ahsan wins big at Madrid Film Festival

The critically acclaimed film, "Robibaar" (On a Sunday), recently won two awards at the Madrid International Film Festival 2020.
Jaya Ahsan won the award for Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film, while Indian director Atanu Ghosh received the award for Best Original Screenplay of a Foreign Language Film.
"Among so many amazing films and renowned actors, winning this award is a big achievement for me and the credit for this goes to our director Atanu Ghosh," Jaya told The Daily Star. "This win belongs to the whole cast and crew. I am especially grateful to Bumbada (Proshenjit Chatterjee) for helping me out in portraying this character on screen."
Jaya won the award after competing with 18 other actors nominated in the Best Lead Actress category. "The psychological aspects of this film were complex and it was challenging for many to understand these themes," said Jaya, about the response to the film in Bangladesh.
Jaya also congratulated director Atanu Ghosh on social media. "What a great news for all of us in such difficult times! Congratulations to you, Atanuda, lots of love," she shared.
The film hit the theatres on December 27, 2019 in Kolkata and was released on February 21 this year in Bangladesh.
Atanu Ghosh also won the Best Director and Best Writing awards for the film at the Critics' Choice Film Awards 2020 in India.
