‘Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge 6’ strikes a chord with Xefer Rahman

Cartoon People launched their online weekly contest, titled Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge, recently. In the sixth edition of this challenge, artistes from all over the nation were asked to play with their brushes to sketch groove-queen Xefer Rahman in different avatars.
There were 38 submissions in this segment. "Though there is no particular award for this contest, by young artists from all corners of Bangladesh get a chance to showcase their style and artwork in front of the cartoonist community and also earn respect by winning, which is a big deal for the community," mentions Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy, noted cartoonist and the founder of Cartoon People.
During the Facebook live session, Xefer Rahman shared a lot of stories, especially from photoshoots with her brother. She was also very keen on knowing the inspirations behind choosing to draw her the way the artists did and asked a lot of questions. "What's the main difference between a portrait and a caricature?" she asked Zawir Mahmud Ratin during the live session.
To which the artist answered, "I am not a caricature specialist but from my understanding and insights from experts, a caricature focuses on one aspect of the face. Even though specific features of the face may be exaggerated, it is still recognisable. On the other hand, a portrait is a simplified, copied version of a human face."
The winners of this session, judged by the musician himself with Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy and noted poet and journalist Anik Khan, the advisor to the Cartoon People community, were declared during the Facebook live session on Cartoon People's official Facebook page. The submitted artworks are available at: https://www.facebook.com/pg/CartoonPeopleOfficial/photos/?tab=album&album_id=2492581154367336&ref=page_internal.
The winners of Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge 6 are Rehnuma Proshoon (first place), Asif Faysal Prangon (second place), Zawir Mahmud Ratin (third place) and Dipto Devnath (fourth place). The upcoming segments will feature other renowned musicians, including Topu, Saif Zohan, Armeen Musa and rock band Arbovirus.
