‘Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge 4’ gives a fantastic tribute to Raef Al Hasan Rafa

(Top, Left to Right) Winning art works by Tahsin Ahmed Aquib and Rehnuma Proshoon (first place), Nafisa Anjum and (Bottom, Left to Right) Zia Priom (second place), and Walker Bin Zaman and Adnan Jawad (third place).

The fourth installment of Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge was held online, recently. The weekly contest, organised by Cartoon People, featured talented musician Raef Al Hasan Rafa, the man behind the band, AvoidRafa.

Over a hundred artworks by young and established cartoonists were submitted during this challenge and the Facebook live session was entertaining and informative. "During the live session, we talked a lot about freedom of speech," shares prominent cartoonist Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy. "There are no such things as ethically, religiously, politically and racially correct cartoons. On one hand, cartoonists use these guidelines very tactfully, in a technical way, while on the other hand, the audience is also expected to exercise tolerance and enjoy humour."

Rafa was very pleased with the caricatures. "I wish to involve each of the artists in my upcoming releases somehow, as their creations have inspired me," said the drummer and vocalist, who also performed during the live session.

A total of 6 winners, judged by the musician himself along with Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy and noted poet and journalist Anik Khan, the advisor to Cartoon People, were declared during the Facebook live session on Cartoon People's official Facebook page. The winning artists for this challenge were: Rehnuma Proshoon and Tahsin Ahmed Aquib (first place), Nafisa Anjum and Zia Priom (second place), and Walker Bin Zaman and Adnan Jawad (third place). All the submissions are available for viewers at: https://www.facebook.com/pg/CartoonPeopleOfficial/photos/?tab=album&album_id=2470583759900409&ref=page_internal .

A special announcement was also made at the end of the live session. Cartoonists who wish to draw caricatures but are not yet familiar with the basics of this art form can join the online course 'How to Draw Caricature' arranged by Cartoon People. The classes will start from next week. Free video tutorials and other learning materials will also be provided to the artists. The upcoming installment of this weekly challenge will feature noted singer and composer Fuad Almuqtadir.
