Bangladesh Mahila Samity reopens tomorrow with ‘Lal Jomin’

After being closed for the last five months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Bangladesh Mahila Samity (BMS) is set to reopen tomorrow with Lal Jomin, presented by the Shunyan Repertory Theatre. The play, written by Mannan Hira and directed by Sudip Chakraborty will be staged for the 244th time at 7:17 pm tomorrow.
The mono-cast play features noted actor and CEO of Shunyan Repertory Theater Momena Chowdhury who is an active member of the theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal. "After being indoors for the last five months, BMS is finally reopening and that too, with my play. I am thrilled!" she shared.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Kamal Bayezid spoke about the reopening. "While other places are opening slowly with time, cinema halls and theatre halls are yet to resume operations," he said. "There are 260 seats in the BMS hall. We don't need to have a full seating service. We can start with a limited audience. I also request Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to start hosting theatre shows, as this industry has been inactive on the stage for a long time."
Mamunur Rashid also shared his expectations. "We have worked in BMS numerous times before," he said. "I am overjoyed with the news that we will soon be able to come back here and I hope we succeed in practicing social distance and ensuring all safety measures for the audience."
