Actor Azam Khan completes five years in showbiz

Noted actor Azam Khan recently reached a milestone, completing five years in showbiz. He took up acting as a hobby, but soon, fell in love with the craft.  A banker by profession and an actor by passion, he works with a leading private commercial bank as the head of communications. He has appeared in more than 200 tele-fictions and two feature films, Shaap Ludo and Bishwo Shundori.

Khan first appeared on television opposite actor Shahiduzzaman Selim in FQ Peter's telefilm, The Hero. "Acting was my dream since childhood. When I first got the opportunity, I thought I would go back to my familiar roots after doing some projects. But that did not happen," he said. "I never thought that I would be so invested in another field, aside from my three-decade career in communications and banking.  Initially, many assumed that I was an actor as well as a producer on television, because of my job in communications. However, the two fields have very different policies and styles. Directors cast me according to the demands of the scripts. I have never merged the two professions."

The actor feels that sadly, television channels are dominated by advertisements these days. "The film industry is also going through a difficult time, as single-screen theatres are going out of fashion and multiplexes are being built," he adds. "People from different industries are now working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, acting is a very collaborative job and actors are used to being around large groups. It cannot be done alone. Yet, the demand for entertainment hasn't decreased, as more and more viewers are turning to streaming platforms."

He also talked about his memorable experiences as an actor. He usually went to shoots on the weekends and public holidays. "I hardly had any free time in these five years. My daughter Ananya missed me a lot. I would like to thank vocalist Chandan Sinha and Hasan Sharif from ATN Bangla, for introducing me to acting, and director Chayanika Chowdhury for casting me in more than fifty of her projects," he concludes.
