The Bangalee soul is an ardently romantic one, and it is of little wonder why thriller films have been made only sporadically over the years. However that is to change today; a new action thriller with filled with promises is being released nationwide. “Dhaka Attack”, helmed by Dipankar Dipon, has generated a lot of buzz over the past months. The film will be released across 125 cinema halls today, following a grand premiere last evening at the capital's Star Cineplex. This sets a new record, for films are only released in so many big screens on special occasions.

“I have shouldered a heavy responsibility by veering away from mainstream films and attempting to create something new,” the director tells The Daily Star. “If the results are positive, then I hope it sets an example among directors to never shy away from new ideas. I would not have been able to make it this far without the support of my whole team, and we have all worked extremely hard for this.”

The director added further that the film contains an important message, but it can only be found out by watching the film at the halls.

Playing the role of Home Minister in the film is noted actor Syed Hasan Imam. “Terrorism and religious extremism is a danger that needs tackling in our country. Fortunately, our very capable police force has been very active in combating this, with results. However, very little is known about their lives and the challenges they face on the force, which is what 'Dhaka Attack' attempts to capture. I have worked with Dipankar Dipon before, and he is extremely hardworking and talented.”

The film also marks the return of Afzal Hossain on the big screen after a long hiatus, and he plays a senior officer on the police force. “The narrative will surely stir the audience,” he stated, “I look forward to its release.”

Arifin Shuvo plays the lead role of a police officer, a figure through whom the obstacles and responsibilities of the occupation will be highlighted. The actor said, “I can only say one thing: all of you must go to the halls to watch the film. We look forward to all the feedback we can get.”

Also appearing in important supporting roles are Shatabdi Wadud and Nawshaba. “My character is emotionally moving; when a police personnel leaves his family to go to work, there is no guarantee of him ever coming back home. I play the role of a police officer's wife,” Nawshaba said of her character. Shatabdi Wadud said, “This is a film that will be best enjoyed on the big screen, and I have high hopes for its success.”
