ACC summon 2 ex-ministers

The Anti-Corruption Commission today summoned former health minister AFM Ruhal Haque and former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman Talukder to appear before it on February 24 and 23 respectively as part of probe into allegation of amassing wealth illegally.
The ACC notice served on the duo warned that legal action would be taken in case of failure to respond it, said a top official of ACC.
Following leads from newspaper reports, the Anti-Corruption Commission on January 22 launched preliminary probes into corruption allegations against seven ministers and lawmakers of the ninth parliament including the duo.
According to the wealth statement submitted to Election Commission in 2008, Mahbubur Rahman Talukder had only 20 acres of agricultural land.
In the run-up to the 10th parliamentary elections, Mahbubur, who got elected unopposed from Patuakhali-4 constituency, stated that he had 2,865 acres of arable land, an astounding increase by 143 times in only five years.
On the other hand AFM Ruhal Haque mentioned in his statement mentioned that he had property worth Tk 4.99 crore which increased to around Tk 9 crore.
Interestingly his wife had around Tk 97 lakh which increased to around Tk 7.50 crore over the last five years.
ACC sources said they have already collected income tax documents of the persons summoned and issued notice to concern authorities for land documents Ruhal and Mahbubur possessed at different parts of the country.
