'Implement land dev rules'


Bangaldesh Paribesh Andolon (Bapa) yesterday formed a human chain in front of the National Museum at Shahbag in the city demanding implementation of land development rules 2004 for private housing.

Addressing a rally followed by the human chain, Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, vice-president of Bapa, urged the government to protect all canals, lakes, low lands and water retention areas from the land grabbers in order to save the capital from water logging.

Saying that an illegal move has begun to hand over the lands at the fag end of the government, Prof Sayeed called for evicting the land grabbers from khas lands.

Among others, ASM Shahjahan, Dr Kazi Saleh Ahmed, Prof Badiul Alam Majumder, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Mihir Bishwas and Sharif Jamil also spoke.

About 12 organisations, including Bela, Blast, Green Voice, Nagorik Uddog and the Hunger Project expressed solidarity with the human chain.
