Torture of Madhu's canteen boys alleged

Canteen boys of Madhu's canteen at Dhaka University (DU) yesterday left their job in protest against the owner's "inhuman torture" on them, causing inconvenience to customers. Students had to have their snacks and tea through self-service. One of the canteen boys told The Daily Star that they have become the victims of repression by Arun Dey, owner of the canteen, who does not pay them regularly. He beat Kanai, the senior most canteen boy, so severely that he has been suffering from fever since Saturday. As Kanai was taking rest, Orun poured water on him and beat him again on Sunday. So we decided to leave the canteen," he added. When contacted, Arun Dey denied the allegations saying he never heard such things earlier.
