Another RMG worker dies

One more worker of KTS Textile and Garments Factory, who sustained severe burns, died yesterday morning raising the death toll in the worst-ever factory fire in the country to 59. The dead was identified as Nasima Akter, 28, of Lal Mohan in Bhola. She was undergoing treatment with 70 % burn injury at the surgery ward of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), but was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) later as her condition deteriorated. At present, 20 KTS workers are undergoing treatments at the CMCH. Of them, four are at the ICU and the rest at the surgery ward. Among the 49 KTS fire victims admitted to the CMCH, five -- Moni, Hannan, Monir, Kamrun Nahar and Nasima -- died so far, hospital sources said. Another six -- Noor Jahan (with 50% burn injury), Abdus Salam (32%), Farzana (30%), Sima Barua (27%), Lovely (30%) and Marzina (25%) -- were shifted to Dhaka for better treatment. The rest with fractures or minor injuries were released, hospital sources added. 54 people died and hundreds were injured at the devastating fire at the KTS garment factory at Kalurghat industrial belt in Chittagong on the night of February 23.
