14-party submits memo to Desa officials

The 14-party opposition alliance led by Awami League (AL) submitted a memorandum to Desa officials in the city yesterday demanding uninterrupted power supply during peak boro season and during SSC examinations.

Earlier in the day, police obstructed the procession of 14-party opposition alliance, which was moving forward from the High Court gate to besiege Dhaka Electricity Supply Authority (Desa), the main electricity supply office of the city, at Abdul Goni road near the Secretariat.

While being barred by the police barricade, the 14-party activists chanted anti-government slogans protesting frequent power outages ahead of the SSC examinations.

However, police later allowed some leaders of 14-party to go to the DESA office for submitting memorandum.

"We must go for tougher movement soon if the crises of power, gas and diesel in the peak boro season as well as during the SSC examinations persist, " Dhaka City AL General Secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya said while talking to journalists after submitting the memorandum.

The need for alliance government is now over as it totally failed to fulfil the minimum need for power, gas and diesel, he added.

"The situation is so worse that the SSC examinees cannot even light a lantern during power outages as kerosene is also not available in the market," Maya said.

Al leaders Haji Selim, HBM Iqbal and Sahara Khatun also took part in the programme.
