A statement from the England medical team on Monday said Jones underwent an arthroscopy last Friday after sustaining an injury to his left knee before the first Test in Nagpur.

The statement added: "Simon has been ruled out of the current Test series in India and at this stage it is thought unlikely that he will be available for the forthcoming one-day international series."

England drew the first Test which ended on Sunday. The second match of the three-Test series starts on Thursday.
