Hasina urges govt to stop 'politics of killing'
Unb, Dhaka
Charging the government with killing innocent people, including opposition activists, Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged the ruling alliance to stop the politics of killing."Killing people has become their habit. How many dead bodies do they want?" she questioned. The opposition leader was talking to the family members of slain Keraniganj Jubo League leader Anwar Hossain at her Sudha Sadan residence. Anwar, president of Jubo League Ruhitpur Union unit in Keraniganj, was stabbed allegedly by pro-government activists on February 1. He succumbed to his injuries the following day. "This BNP-Jamaat alliance is gradually becoming ferocious as their popularity has been on the wane," Hasina said. She said: "Pro-liberation forces are being killed everyday by the terrorists let loose by this anti-liberation government. They (terrorists) are killing progressive people through bomb and grenade attacks." AL and all pro-liberation forces along with the countrymen will wage a tougher movement to oust this government, she said. A heart-rending scene was created in the Sudhasadan when Anwar Hossain's family members arrived there. Anwar's mother Julekha Begum, wife Rufija Begum, daughter Tahmina and son Selim talked to the opposition leader. Jubo League secretary Mirza Azam was also present.
