Lankan cricket board officially disbanded
AFP, Colombo
Sri Lanka's sports minister Jeevan Kumaratunga has sacked the country's cricket governing body amid allegations of financial irregularities, ministry officials said Friday. Kumaratunga dismissed the Sri Lanka Cricket committee just three days before the newly-elected members were due to take office on Sunday and replaced it with a special administration team, a ministry official said. He said the move, effective overnight, was made amid allegations of financial irregularities in what is seen as the country's richest sporting body.
