BSF guns down 2 Bangladeshis

Two Bangladeshi cattle traders were shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Datbhang beel (water body) under Swarupnagar Police Station of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India, early yesterday.The dead are Forman Ali, 25, son of Barik Ali and Abul Bashar, 35, son of Abdul Majed of village Gangnia in Satkhira Sadar upazila. BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) and police sources said the two went to India on Wednesday to purchase cattle. While returning home at about 2:30am yesterday, the Indian border guards chased the cattle traders and shot them dead. Some people of Gazipur, a frontier village under Satkhira Sadar upazila, said they found the two bodies lying in the beel (water body). When contacted, Major Nomani, acting commanding officer of 41 Rifles Battalion, told this correspondent that the bodies of the two cattle traders were found lying inside the Indian territory, 500 yards off the zero point. "We have sent a protest letter to the BSF authorities asking them to return the bodies," the commanding officer said.
