The International School Dhaka (ISD) was awarded a Certificate of Accreditation by Richard Tangye, executive director of the Council of International Schools (CIS), yesterday, says a press release.Robert Gibson, the British deputy high commissioner, attended the certificate award ceremony as chief guest and Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star, as special guest. The British deputy high commissioner presented the award to John Sperandio, CEO of the school, at the ceremony, attended by the parents and students. The ceremony was held at the school auditorium in the city. The Council of International Schools is a not-for-profit association of over 550 international schools and 400 institutions of higher education, working collaboratively for the continuous improvement in education. The ISD has also received an accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the oldest of the six regional accrediting agencies in the United States. The ISD is one of 1,460 International Baccalaureate World Schools and is authorised to follow the Primary and Middle Years Programmes of the IB. In August, it will open the first IB Diploma course in Bangladesh for students completing GCSE or "O" level examinations. The award of an IB Diploma together with CIS/NEASC accreditations will ensure that ISD's graduating students will gain access to major colleges and universities in Europe and the United States.
