Bangladeshi- born American sworn in as DAG of New Jersey


Dewan Sharmin Arefin, a Bangladeshi-born American, was sworn in as Deputy Attorney General (DAG) of the State of New Jersey, USA, a Community press release said yesterday.

Director of the Division of Law of New Jersey Nancy Kaplan administered the swearing-in ceremony on March 7 at Hughes Justice Centre in the State capital of Trenton.

Sharmin also worked as an associate at Radom and Wetter, one of the most reputed law firms in New Jersey and prior to that she served the Superior Court of New Jersey as a Judicial Clerk to Judge Ann R Bartlett.

She also worked earlier for the General Assembly Majority, Trenton, NJ as Legal Intern to the Chief Counsel and Deputy Chief Counsel and as legislative Intern to the same body for about two years.

Born in Bangladesh in 1977, educated mostly in the US since 1980 she did her Juris Doctorate (JD) from Seton Hall University School of Law, Newark, NJ in 2002.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association and New York Bar Association.

Sharmin is the only daughter of Dewan Shamsul Arefin and Nurjahan Begum of NJ.
