Bail prayer of Rab man rejected, sent to jail

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) member, arrested on Tuesday while taking bribe from a businessman at Gopibagh in the city, was sued under Speedy Trial (Law and Order Disruption) Act yesterday.Demra police placed Sub-Inspector Hafizur Rahman, 41, of Rab-3 before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka at about 1:00pm yesterday with a forwarding report. The defence lawyer prayed for bail of Hafiz, but the Court sent him to jail rejecting the petition. The intelligence wing of the Rab, however, arrested SI Hafiz from Bhai Bhai Rice Store at Gopibagh in the city while receiving Tk one lakh in bribe. Earlier, Rab took action against 107 officials for various offences since its inception in June last. It has also cancelled deputation of 72 officials to it and the process is under way for sending 35 other Rab men back to their mother organisations for breaking discipline.
