Celebrating the harvest
The seeds, which were sowed during the rainy season, have now grown into golden crops despite disasters like flood, heavy downpour and drought. People across the country are dazzled by the colour of the golden paddy. It's harvest time and the villages of Bangladesh are celebrating the traditional festival called Nobanno--the festival of offering new rice to god and pray for a good crop in the coming year.Organised on the last day of Poush, the festivity captures an array of pithas (rice cakes) made out of new rice with dashes of fresh molasses for the bountiful harvest. Like the previous years, Jatiyo Nobannotshob Udjapon Porshod celebrated its 6th Nobanno venture at the Bakultola of the Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, yesterday. The festival started at 7am and continued till 10pm with various programmes including painting competition for children, presentation of dance and folk music. A daylong 'Nobanno Utsav' will be held on December 27 on the premises of Fine Arts Institute of Dhaka University.
