Tête-à-tête
'An artiste is never satisfied'--Hakim
The Daily Star's (TDS) Shilpi Mahalanabish recently talked to popular actor and director Azizul Hakim (AH). Here are excerpts from the interview:

TDS: Could you tell us a little about the film you'll be working in?

AH: I'll be working in a film titled Joyjatra, which will be directed by actor Toukir Ahmed. The story of the film revolves around the Independence war and how Adam, the character I play, tries to save himself from the Pakistani Army.

TDS: When does the shooting begin?

AH: It was supposed to have begun a while back but has been postponed till June.

TDS: Are you thinking of going into direction as well? Many actors are doing so nowadays, including the director of Joyjatra, Toukir Ahmed.

AH: An artiste is never satisfied and wants to be creative. That's when the urge to experiment and direct takes place within. To date I have directed a 13-episode television serial and two stage plays of an hour each. I also plan to direct on the big screen some time in the future.

TDS: Your wife, Zeenat Hakim, is a playwright. Do you plan to try your hand in writing as well?

AH: I find writing extremely difficult! However, I did try my hand in writing a while back. But I guess I am just not up to this task.

TDS: What are you working on now?

AH: At this point of time, I am working on Din chole jay, Shaola and Khoabo.

TDS: Would you consider working in a mainstream film?

AH: As an artiste, I have always dreamed of working on the big screen. I will definitely be a part of the big screen, provided that the conditions in the film industry improve over time.

TDS: You are a member of Aranyak, the theatre group, however, you are rarely seen in any of their productions. Why is that?

AH: Acting is my profession and one has to give an ample amount of time if involved with a theatre group. Since I am always busy with package productions, I am unable to give time to Aranyak.

TDS: Does that mean that you won't be working on stage anymore?

AH: I will definitely be a part of the theatre world, no matter what. I have planned to eventually lessen the number of package productions and give more time to the stage. I actually miss the stage experience very much.
