Extortionists kill timber trader at Rajbari

A timber trader was gunned down by extortionists at Rajbari on Thursday night as he failed to pay the toll as demanded by them. The victim was identified as Nishikanta, 29, son of Anil Kanta of Gheekamal village under Baliakandi upazila. Victim's family sources said the extortionists, allegedly belonging to outlawed operatives, demanded Tk 50,000 from Nishikanta several days ago, but he managed to pay Tk 7,000. The extortionists were not satisfied over the amount. They threatened him to kill if he could not pay the rest. Rajbari police said a gang of 10 extortionists stormed into the house of Nishikanta at about 11:00pm and shot him at point blank. He died on the spot.
