The One and Only Star Search 2004, a competitive musical events, began at Sheraton Hotel with live performance by previous years' award winning vocalists Nigar Sultana Shumi and Komol and band groups.

Sponsored by the British American Tobacco (BAT), the event marks a special focus on bringing talented young stars to limelight.

"We are looking for new stars and like everyone else the media also has a role to play to promote the stars," said Mahmudur Rahman, head of BAT, Bangladesh at the inaugural ceremony.

The first Star Search was held in 1999. It opened a magical pathway for the musical group 'Vikings'. Star Search 2000 was even better. After the first success, they realised that it was unfair to select only one star. They introduced best band, best solo performer and eight other categories in Star Search 2000.

Since its official launch, Benson & Hedges has been committed to the cause of music.

Benson & Hedges have invited musicians to apply for the competition. Application forms will be available in selected outlets after May 22.

A web site (www.starsearch-bd.com) has also been launched to provide information on the competition.
