Visitors Chittagong Abahani came from behind twice to hold Brothers Union to a 2-2 draw in an entertaining encounter of the Bangladesh League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Ghanaian striker Enock Bentil struck a brace for Brothers while Mithun Chowdhury and Sumon Barua netted one goal each for the port city outfit in the last match before a one-and-a-half months break due to national team's preparations for the SAFF Championship to be held over December 4 to 13 in Bangladesh.
With the second draw in three outings, both Brothers and Ctg Abahani secured five points each and shared the crowed fourth spot along with Arambagh KS and Farashganj SC.
Title contenders Mohammedan with maximum nine points from three matches are on top of the 13-team table on goal difference while holders Abahani with same points are breathing down their neck. Sheikh Russel are in the third position with seven points.
Back to the match, Brothers were unlucky of not getting full points despite creating more scoring chances as well as rattling the Chittagong Abahani crossbar once.
Fresh after their 1-0 win against Chittagong Mohammedan, the visitors almost took a lead in the 13th minute when Mithun, who struck the all-import goal in the last game, slot the ball past an onrushing Brothers goalkeeper Iran Sheikh, only to be cleared by defender Yousuf Ali.
Just two minutes later, Brothers also came close to taking a lead when Bentil let loose a powerful volley that narrowly missed the target.
Bentil, however did not make mistake to put his side ahead in the 36th minute. Latching on a Tanvir cross from the right, the Ghanaian striker, who had earlier struck the decisive goal against Muktijoddha, fired in a grounder past Abahani goalkeeper Khaled Azam Biplob.
After resumption, visitors Abahani bit back with crisp passing and better movement and got the equaliser six minutes into the second half when Shakawat Rony whipped in a cross from the right that Mithun volleyed home.
Five minutes later, Brothers went ahead again with Bentil, who ran past two opponent defenders to enter the danger zone before putting the ball over the advancing Biplob to make it 2-1.
Brothers' party, however, did not last long as Abahani hit back again in the 72nd minute when Sumon drove an Akinyele Peter lob home.
The Gopibagh-based outfit still could have had the last laugh had a powerful shot from substitute Maksudul Alam Bulbul was not denied by the woodwork and Bentil not squandered a sitter in the dying minutes.
