Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and 300 other aspirants yesterday collected Awami League nomination forms for election to the parliamentary seats reserved for women.
In the last two days, a total of 509 aspirants bought the application forms against some 38 seats. The party will also sell nomination papers today. On the first day, it sold 209 forms for Tk 25,000 each. Interview of the candidates will take place on Sunday.
AL central leaders Faridunnahar Laily and Fazilatunnessa Indira and Jubo Mohila League President Nazma Akter and General Secretary Apu Ukil, actresses Falguni Hamid, Tarana Halim, and Ratna, among others, bought the application forms.
Speaker's personal assistant Kamal Billah collected the nomination form on her behalf from party President Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi office in the capital.
Shirin, a lawmaker from the reserved seats, was elected Speaker of the 9th parliament. She is going to serve as Speaker for a second term.
