Political turmoil eats up Tk 2,277cr daily

Bangladesh is now dealing with a daily loss of Tk 2,277.86 crore in business sectors during the ongoing countrywide political turmoil, a research of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) says.

“We have lost a total of Tk 36,445.76 crore in the last 16 days’ political unrest in 16 different business sectors including readymade garments, agriculture, real estate, wholesale and retail market,” DCCI President Hossain Khaled said during a press conference at Dhaka Chamber Auditorium in Dhaka this afternoon.

The calculation was estimated from different reports of newspapers and associations and DCCI’s own research wing, the president added.

The financial losses stand at Tk 61.54 crore or 2.6 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Khaled said.
