Indian minority affairs minister arrives tomorrow

Indian Minister for Minority Affairs K Rahman Khan will arrive in the country tomorrow for a five-day visit to discuss issues related to welfare of minorities with government leaders.
He is coming at the invitation of State Minister for Religious Affairs of Bangladesh Shahjahan Miah, said an Indian high commission press release yesterday.
He will meet President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Shahjahan Miah.
The Indian minister will also visit Chittagong.

 

 

PM visits ailing actor Anwar Hossain

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday gave a cheque worth Tk 10 lakh for the treatment of Anwar Hossain, a legendary actor of Bangla cinema.
She went to meet Anwar in the capital's Square Hospital and handed over the cheque to his relatives.
Anwar Hossain acted in more than 500 films.
The premier is bearing Anwar's treatment cost and earlier provided Tk 5 lakh when he was admitted to the hospital.

 

 

Two rice mills gutted in Ctg

Two tin-shed rice mills were gutted in fire in Pahartali Chaol Potti area of Chittagong city yesterday.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at one of the mills around 5:00am, said fire service officials. They estimated the damage at Tk 15 lakh.
Fire fighters doused the fire around 6:30am.

 

 

Youth's body found in capital

Police recovered the body of an unidentified youth from a canal in Barait area of the capital's Badda Wednesday afternoon.
Locals spotted the decomposed body, clad in lungi, floating on the canal around 2:00pm, said Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station.
Police suspect miscreants dumped the body after strangulating him, Iqbal added.

 

 

Body of drowned boy recovered

Police yesterday recovered the body of a 12-year-old boy who drowned in a canal in Sagardighirpar area in Sylhet city on Wednesday.
The deceased was Rubel Mia, son of Kala Miah of Sunamganj Sadar upazila.
Sylhet Kotwali police said Rubel slipped and fell in the canal during heavy rain.
The body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College morgue.

 

 

Australian deputy envoy meets Hefajat leaders in Ctg

Australian Deputy High Commissioner in Bangladesh Tim Bolotnikoff yesterday met the leaders of Hefajat-e Islam at a madrasa in Chittagong city.
He made a courtesy call with Hefajat leaders at Jamiyatul Ulum Madrasa at Lalkhan Bazar yesterday afternoon and discussed the system of qawmi madrasas.
Mufti Izharul Islam, nayeb-e ameer of Hefajat-e Islam, also the founding principal of Jamiyatul Ulum Madrasa; Muhibullah Babunagari, senior nayeb-e ameer; and Azizul Hoque Islamabadi, its organising secretary, and Ubaidur Rahman Khan Nadvi, international affairs adviser of the Islamist group, were present among others.
