Industrialist Ragib Ali sued

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against industrialist and banker Ragib Ali for amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 5.47cr and concealing information about his assets worth about Tk. 2.5 crore.
RK Mazumder, assistant director of the ACC, Sylhet unit, filed the case with Sylhet Kotwali Police Station on Wednesday night.
ACC served a notice on Ragib Ali in 2008, asking him to submit his wealth report. Accordingly, Ragib Ali submitted a statement to the commission through his lawyer Mubinul Islam on 10 September the same year, showing his wealth worth about Tk 28, 14, 17,709. It includes, movable property worth Tk 10,97,97000 and immovable property worth Tk 17,16,20,709.
But during investigation, the ACC detected his property worth Tk.33, 29,55,713. It includes, movable property worth Tk.13,49,31,632 and immovable property worth Tk.19,80,24,081. The investigation showed that Ragib Ali had concealed property worth Tk. 5,46,65,171.
Ragib Ali went in hiding after the caretaker government assumed power in January 2007. Former chairman of Southeast Bank, Ali owns tea gardens in Sylhet and Chittagong, a private medical college and university and some multi-storey markets in Sylhet and Dhaka.
Our Dinajpur correspondent adds: A Dinajpur court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against a leader of district BNP in a corruption case filed by the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC).
